Theatre Practitioner / Operating Department Practitioner

Please note an Anaesthetic qualification is essential for appointment. You must be able to demonstrate this at interview and as part of the recruitment process. The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary perioperative team, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care within the theatre environment. They will work within their scope of competence and professional registration, maintaining high standards of clinical practice at all times. The post holder will support the day-to-day running of the clinical area, responding appropriately to changing clinical priorities and working collaboratively with surgical, anaesthetic and theatre teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care. They will be expected to develop and maintain clinical competence within their specialist area, completing a structured orientation and competency programme and participating in ongoing professional development activities. The role includes supporting the supervision and development of learners and new staff within the department, contributing to a positive learning environment and maintaining effective communication within the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will maintain accurate clinical records and use electronic systems appropriately in line with Trust policy and professional standards. They will demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with patients, relatives and colleagues, ensuring patient dignity, confidentiality and safety are maintained at all times. The post holder will support the safe management of medicines, equipment and consumables within the perioperative environment, adhering to Trust policies, national legislation and local procedures. They will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment through compliance with infection prevention, health and safety and clinical governance processes, including incident reporting and escalation of concerns where appropriate. The post holder will participate in mandatory training, departmental meetings and ongoing quality improvement activities, contributing to the continued development of perioperative services within the department. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across theatre specialties to support safe and effective service delivery in line with the needs of the department.
