This role is ideal for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a critical healthcare environment and understands the importance of safety, compliance and service continuity.
To be successful in this role, you must have
✅ Level 3 Mechanical Qualification (NVQ, City and Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing, Heating or Building Services)
✅ Experience working within healthcare estates, hospital engineering or a similarly regulated critical environment
✅ Proven experience delivering both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
✅ Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical building services systems
✅ Knowledge of statutory compliance, safe systems of work and permit to work procedures
✅ Experience working on heating systems, water services, pumps, valves, air handling units and associated mechanical plant
✅ Ability to work oncall and provide your own transport when covering call outs
Highly Desirable
- HTM Level 3 training or equivalent healthcare estates experience
- Authorised Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) training/experience
- Legionella Awareness or Water Hygiene training
- Experience working with ventilation systems, pressure systems and healthcare water services
- Experience using CAFM systems such as Maximo

At Sodexo, we're looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Healthcare Estates team at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton.
This is an opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining the mechanical infrastructure that supports patient care every day. Working in a live hospital environment, you'll ensure critical systems remain safe, compliant and operational while supporting the delivery of high quality healthcare services.
You'll join a skilled Estates team responsible for maintaining essential services across the hospital, where your expertise will directly contribute to patient safety, operational resilience and compliance with healthcare engineering standards.
What You'll Do
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a wide range of mechanical building services systems.
- Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and restore services safely and efficiently.
- Maintain and support critical infrastructure including heating systems, hot and cold water services, pumps, valves, calorifiers, heat exchangers and ventilation equipment.
- Carry out maintenance on air handling units, pressurisation systems, plant room equipment and mechanical distribution systems.
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with HTM guidance, statutory regulations and site procedures.
- Support permit to work, isolation and safety management processes.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and compliance documentation.
- Work closely with Estates colleagues, clinical teams and specialist contractors to minimise disruption and maintain service continuity.
- Assist with lifecycle replacement programmes, commissioning activities and minor project works.
- Identify risks, plant condition concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement across the hospital estate.
What You Bring
Essential
- NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds, or equivalent Mechanical qualification.
- Experience working within healthcare estates, hospitals, PFI environments or similarly critical facilities.
- Strong experience maintaining and repairing mechanical building services systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs safely and effectively.
- Good understanding of HTM standards, statutory compliance and healthcare engineering requirements.
- Experience working within permit to work and isolation procedures.
- Experience maintaining heating systems, domestic water systems, pumps, valves, ventilation plant and associated mechanical infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong organisational and record keeping abilities.
- A proactive, safety first approach.
Desirable
- HTM Level 3 or equivalent healthcare engineering training.
- Authorised Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) qualification or experience.
- Legionella Awareness / Water Hygiene training.
- Confined Space training.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
- Experience with CAFM, Maximo or similar maintenance management systems.
- Knowledge of ventilation systems, pressure systems and healthcare water compliance.
- Experience within NHS, healthcare or other highly regulated environments.
