Lead Nurse - Tissue Viability

To consider all the available treatment options and recommend the most appropriate to the patient based on a full and comprehensive assessment of need. Provides clinical advice in specialist area to nursing and MDT colleagues To work within accepted professional and organisational standards in line with professional codes of conduct and local policy. To critically appraise and apply research-based and best practice evidence to support any prescribing decision. To work with the local Medicines Management Teams in optimising, where appropriate, drug utilisation and spend according to clinical need and individual patient safety / benefit. To attend required in house Continuing Professional Development sessions specific to non-medical prescribing. Professional leadership and service development Lead and manage the tissue viability team. Provide exemplary leadership and expert advice to all staff involved in tissue viability and pressure ulcer management. Inspire colleagues to improve standards and quality of care and to develop professional practice in tissue viability and pressure ulcer management and to identify and work with others to address gaps in the service. Provide expert advice to others outside of nursing particularly where this contributes to longer term strategic planning. To support delivery and leadership of the Pressure Ulcer Steering Group. Lead the development of policy relating to the delivery of tissue viability and pressure ulcer prevention practice. Ensure effective communication channels are in place to keep all staff informed of national and local issues and relevant research and practice developments. Provide leadership in the long-term strategic planning, development and implementation of tissue viability and pressure ulcer management within the Trust. Collect and offer evidence to regulatory inspection teams when the organisation undergoes an inspection of its arrangements for pressure ulcer prevention and management strategies or a multi-agency inspection is undertaken. Education, Training and Development Lead the development of a Trust-wide and system-level workforce and education strategy for tissue viability, ensuring sustainable capability and future workforce planning, ensuring that targets are met and data collation is robust. Lead the development and implementation of learning events related to themes and issues identified and evaluate impact of events, amending delivery and content as required. Identify and respond to tissue viability and pressure ulcer learning needs at individual, team and organisational levels within the Trust. Deliver education, training and development of staff on a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency basis as a trainer, designing and delivering specialist training programs to meet needs identified in the Trusts tissue viability and pressure ulcer prevention strategy. Work closely with Higher Education Institutes to develop, plan and implement education and development programs that meet the needs of Trust staff to address the tissue viability and pressure ulcer agenda. Shape capability frameworks across the organisation and partners. Work with higher education institutes and system partners to influence education provision. People management and development Actively participate at meetings and committees related to nursing education and training. Ensure the highest level of service delivery and deal with deficits in individual and team performance in line with Trust policies. Maintain good staff relationships across all professional teams. Promote the corporate values and objectives of the Trust through the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures and appropriate personal behaviours. Participate in annual achievement and personal development reviews. Ensure that self and others practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (The Code) and other appropriate NMC and statutory guidelines. Communications and information management Contribute to the development and management of information systems to support best practice and compliance with NICE Pressure Ulcer Quality standards. Provide and receive highly complex, highly sensitive or highly contentious information; where developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training or empathic or reassurance skills are required. In conjunction with DCNs investigate nursing related safety issues; participate in learning responses to guide action plans which improve patient safety and clinical outcomes as part of the Patient safety Incident response (PSIRF) Framework. Deliver training or presenting information to large groups in a formal setting. Lead self and team in effectively communicating in person to a broad range of audiences in various settings including in highly emotional and complex situations. Responsibility for Financial and Physical Resources Lead and influence resource optimisation across pathways, including procurement, cost improvement and value-based care. Lead the TVN team and wider multidisciplinary teams across the trust to ensure that budgets and resources are managed effectively and robustly in relation to wound care. Provide strategic input into procurement decisions for specialist equipment and resources Contribute to or manage programme-level budgets linked to service transformation Responsible for Information Resources Maintains patient/client records, records research results Ensure all information is stored in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Caldicott principles. Identify education and training requirements on Information Resources for all relevant staff. Processes information electronically and manually. Ensure information is communicated through the appropriate Trust channels as required. Oversees high standards of record keeping within areas of responsibility. Analytical & Judgement Skills Conducts detailed patient assessments including taking health history, diagnostic/investigation reports and develops a treatment plan; provides clinical/nursing advice around wound care to multi-disciplinary teams and clinical colleagues. Leads on the investigation of adverse events in partnership with divisions and patient safety teams.
