Behaviour Support Worker

We are currently recruiting a Behaviour Support Assistant on behalf of a well-regarded mainstream secondary school in Barking. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome behavioural, social, and emotional barriers to learning.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll work closely with students who require additional support to manage their behaviour and stay engaged in their education. You'll be based within a supportive pastoral/inclusion team, helping to create a calm and positive learning environment both in and out of the classroom.

Please note

as this role is based in a mainstream secondary school, some cover supervision duties will also be required from time to time, so candidates should be comfortable managing whole classes when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1

1 and small-group behaviour support to identified students

• De-escalate conflict and support students with emotional regulation
• Work closely with SENCOs, pastoral staff, and teachers to implement behaviour plans
• Supervise students during break times, isolation/reflection rooms, or exclusion rooms as required
• Step in to cover classes when needed, ensuring lessons run smoothly in the teacher's absence
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support long-term behavioural improvement
• Maintain accurate records of incidents and interventions

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working with young people in a school, youth work, or similar setting (essential)
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a secondary school environment
• Resilience, patience, and a calm, consistent approach
• Willingness to undertake some cover supervision duties
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
• Team Teach / de-escalation training desirable but not essential
