About the role
We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to work as Functional Assessors, delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services based in Newport (Isle of Wight).
This role provides an alternative to hands-on clinical work, within a structured environment and predictable working pattern. The role focuses on carrying out assessments and producing written reports, rather than providing treatment or direct patient care.

Hybrid working
A mixture of working from home and in the local office
No nights, weekends or shift work
Full-time and part-time roles available
Right to work in the UK required (sponsorship not available)
Training
All roles require completion of a full-time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence.
The role
You will carry out structured functional assessments for individuals applying for PIP or undergoing Work Capability Assessments.
The focus is on understanding how a person’s health condition affects their day-to-day activities and ability to work.
Assessments are completed using
Telephone
Video consultation
Face-to-face appointments (non-clinical setting)
All appointments are pre-booked and structured.
Typical workload
PIP
around 3 assessments per day
WCA
around 4 to 6 assessments per day
Responsibilities
Carry out structured assessments using clinical judgement
Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
Produce clear, objective written reports
Communicate professionally and sensitively with individuals being assessed
This role does not involve
Providing hands-on care
Diagnosing conditions
Prescribing or delivering treatment
Making decisions on benefit entitlement
Working nights, weekends or shifts
Requirements
Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD) with a valid NMC registration
Minimum 12 months post-registration clinical experience
Good written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable using IT systems
