SEMH Behaviour Mentor

Are you an experienced Behaviour Mentor passionate about making a real difference in young people's lives?

We are seeking a dedicated professional on behalf of a leading Alternative Provision in West London supporting pupils aged 5-19 outside mainstream education.

Operating from a modern, purpose-built campus with specialist facilities -including science labs, catering suites, and music technology studios - this setting provides a dynamic environment designed to help young people thrive.

The Role

Working alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will mentor students at risk of permanent exclusion. Your primary focus will be helping pupils re-engage with education, regulate their emotions, build resilience, and successfully transition back to mainstream school, further education, or employment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored, trauma-informed emotional, behavioural, and educational support.
• De-escalate high-pressure situations and proactively manage challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.
• Maintain clear professional boundaries while building rapport and trust with vulnerable students.
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and specialists to maintain a safe, structured, and secure learning environment.
• Lead small-group mentoring sessions and support classroom engagement.

Requirements

SEMH Experience

Proven track record supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, complex behaviours, or trauma (e.g., in alternative provisions, SEN schools, residential care, foster care, or youth work).

Behaviour Management Skills

Excellent de-escalation techniques, high emotional resilience, and professional maturity.

Core Qualifications

GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above).

Key Principles

Strong commitment to trauma-informed care and safeguarding.

Compliance

An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).
