This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the UK, delivering care to more than 2 million people a year through our four main hospitals: Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free and most recently the North Middlesex Hospital.

We are delighted to be looking for Pelvic Health Specialist physiotherapists to join our pool of bank staff at the Royal Free Hampstead site.The post holder must have strong clinical reasoning skills and expertise in complex presentations involving bladder, bowel and pelvic pain symptoms. The ideal candidate will be confident and competent in vaginal and anorectal examinations, with experience in managing vulval pain and other complex pelvic health conditions.

Successful candidates are required to be able to demonstrate the Trust's shared commitments, the specific responsibilities of the job description and to meet the person specification. You should have proven experience of working in an acute hospital setting.

1.To work as autonomous practitioner within the multidisciplinary Pelvic Health Service at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Free, Hampstead site.

2.To provide a highly specialised assessment and intervention for own varied caseload of outpatients within the specialty of Pelvic Health conditions, including patients who may have highly complex presentations, with the aim of facilitating short and long-term self-management approaches to their condition.

3.To be involved in the development of the Pelvic Health Service in consultation with the Clinical Team Lead, striving to ensure maximum efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness.

4.To supervise, teach and appraise junior, assistant and student physiotherapists as appropriate.

5.To supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects and lead in-service trainings.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES - Clinical/Service delivery.

1.To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional activities in line with the standards of the Trust, Department,Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

2.To have overall accountability for the planning and management of own complex and specialist caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

3.To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based knowledge to assess patients with highly complex presentations using a bio-psychosocial model and then to implement physiotherapy management plans as an autonomous practitioner.

4.To be able to explore complex and distressing personal histories, in a sensitive and supportive manner.

5.To continuously assess, evaluate and modify treatment aims, objectives and desired outcomes in collaboration with the patient, any carers, and the multidisciplinary team.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PATIENTS

1.To maintain accurate, comprehensive professional case notes for all direct and indirect patient contact.

2.To communicate effectively with patients, carers and other professionals on an individual or group basis in order to maximise clinical effectiveness and ensure understanding of condition, which will frequently require flexible communication skills including:

a)motivation

b)explanation of complex issues including anatomy, patho-physiology, effects of disuse, interaction between components of biomedical and bio-psychosocial constructs.

3.To demonstrate flexibility in communication and interpersonal skills to overcome barriers to communication such as

ü dysfunctional illness beliefs

ü altered perception and cognition

ü loss of hearing/sight

ü language and cultural barriers

ü distressing information eg. Victims of abuse

ü environmental e.g., lack of privacy, excess noise

ü hostile, antagonistic and highly emotive situations

ü controversial and/or highly complex information

ülong-term illness/dysfunction and/or uncertain prognosis

4.To occasionally convey information, particularly in highly complex, contentious and emotive situations which may be beyond the scope of more junior staff and requiring more developed communication skills.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development

1To have knowledge and understanding of a variety of cultural backgrounds and beliefs in order to respect individuals’ rights and dignity.

2.In collaboration with the Clinical Lead undertake monitoring and evaluation of work and current practice through the use of evidence-based practice projects, audit and outcome measures. To make recommendations and implement change where required.

3.To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management appropriate to the work situation.

4.To participate in the strategic and operational planning,

implementation of policy and service development within the Pelvic

Health Service alongside the Clinical Lead
