Joining our catering team means becoming a vital part of a supportive school community where your work directly impacts students, staff and local partner schools every day.About the RoleWe are seeking a reliable, energetic and customer-focused General Catering Assistant to join our busy catering team based at Norton Hill School.In this varied role, you will assist in food preparation, operate kitchen equipment, handle till transactions, maintain high cleanliness and food safety standards and help deliver meals to local partner schools using the school catering vehicle when required.Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Kitchen Duties
Assist with basic food preparation (sandwiches, baguettes, salads, simple sauces, and pre-mixes), simple cooking (boiling, steaming, light frying) and setting up food displays.
Service & Dining Room
Set up dining areas, manage queues, wipe tables, clear trays/trolleys, empty waste and provide friendly service to students and staff.
Till Operations
Operate cashless till systems, administering free school meals and staff duty meal authorisations accurately.
Cleaning & Hygiene
Wash crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment. Perform routine and deep cleaning using approved equipment and COSHH-compliant chemicals. Maintain daily fridge/freezer temperature logs in line with Food Hygiene Regulations.
Safety & Compliance
Participate in risk assessments, report potential hazards, and uphold strict health, safety and hygiene practices.There are many advantages to working for us.
