An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Small Works Project Manager to join a leading facilities management and infrastructure services team supporting a diverse and operationally critical portfolio across the defence sector.

This role offers the chance to oversee the successful delivery of small works projects, planned maintenance programmes, and reactive works while ensuring compliance, safety, quality, and value for money. Working across sites in Chicksands and RAF Henlow, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving important facilities that support essential operations.

Your new role

As Small Works Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a range of maintenance and project works from inception through to completion, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements.

You'll act as a key point of contact for stakeholders, contractors, and end users while ensuring high standards of service delivery across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of small works projects, planned maintenance, and reactive works programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, health and safety requirements, and industry best practice.
  • Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Oversee contractor and supply chain performance, ensuring quality, safety, and value for money.
  • Monitor compliance relating to asbestos, legionella, working at height, confined spaces, and other safe systems of work.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and operational teams.
  • Manage project budgets and costs while supporting commercial objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical queries, service issues, and customer concerns.
  • Support forward maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you'll need to succeed

We're looking for a technically capable and commercially minded facilities professional who enjoys managing projects, leading stakeholders, and delivering high-quality results.

You'll Ideally Have

  • Experience managing small works projects within facilities management, construction, maintenance, or estates environments.
  • Strong knowledge of planned and reactive maintenance delivery.
  • Experience managing contractors and supply chain partners.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work.

  • Confined Spaces
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Facilities Management qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Building, Mechanical, Facilities Management, or related discipline desirable.
  • Membership of a professional body such as IWFM is advantageous.
