Humanities Teacher (History & Geography) - Specialist SEND Secondary

Are you an experienced Humanities specialist ready to bring the world to life for students with unique learning needs?

We are seeking a dedicated History & Geography Teacher to join our founding team at a brand-new SEND secondary school openied in September 2025. Located in Chaldon, Surrey, this is a rare opportunity to shape a Humanities curriculum from the ground up, specifically designed for young people aged 11-16 with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs.

£34,398 - £48,913 per year (M1 - UPS1 Fringe)

40 hours per week (Finish at 4:00 PM every Friday)

Chaldon, Surrey (with occasional work at our satellite site in Caterham)

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Delivery

Deliver high-quality History and Geography lessons tailored to students with autism and complex learning needs

Individualised Learning

Set, monitor, and review personalised targets to optimise learning for each student.

Professional Advocacy

Contribute to the review of EHCPs, PEPs, and LAC reviews, ensuring academic and social needs are met.

Safe Learning Environment

Manage challenging behaviours through a non-confrontational, reflective approach in line with school policies.

Strategic Planning

Maintain short, medium, and long-term plans while providing subject leadership across the school.

About You

We are looking for a resilient and creative practitioner who understands that for our students, History and Geography are windows to understanding the wider world.

Essential Criteria

-

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or equivalent.

-

Proven experience delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with SEND.

-

Sound knowledge of the National Curriculum and how to adapt it for complex needs.

-

Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

-

Driving License

Highly desirable due to our rural location and limited public transport.

Desirable Criteria

-

A postgraduate diploma in Autism.

-

Experience working specifically with students who present with challenging behaviours.
