About this role

The Orthopaedic Outpatient Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital delivers trauma and elective orthopaedic services, including a busy orthopaedic outpatient department/ fracture clinic and plaster room, working closely with the multidisciplinary team across outpatient, inpatient and emergency care settings.

Ideally, we are looking to recruit a band 5 Orthopaedic Practitioner, however, would consider trainee band 3 applications if we can-not appoint at band 5 level. Please refer to relevant Job Description and Person Specification alongside essential and desirable criteria when applying (i.e. refer to Band 5 JD + PS when applying for band 5; Band 3 JD + PS when applying for trainee post).

Flexible working is required; we are open from 8.00am-18:00 Monday to Friday.

Please note

This post is for 30 hours per week.

The primary base is the Royal Hampshire County Hospital Winchester, although you may be required to support the service needs and work across site at one of the other Trust sites (Winchester, Basingstoke, Andover).

· The main purpose of this post is to provide inpatient and outpatients and those attending the accident and emergency department with a casting service which meets the requirements of the patients injury.

· Deliver safe, effective casting in line with Trust policies, national guidance and local protocols and SOPs.

· Apply, modify and remove a range of casts, splints and braces appropriate to patient needs and clinical instructions

· Undertake basic clinical tasks such as dressing application/removal, suture and clip removal where trained and competent

· Ensure correct limb positioning, neurovascular safety checks and patient comfort before, during and after cast application

· Provide patients and carers with clear verbal and written advice on cast care, mobility, safety and follow‑up

· Recognise complications and escalate concerns promptly to the appropriate clinician

· Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation in line with Trust standards

· Contribute to smooth patient flow within fracture clinic and outpatient areas

· Act as a positive role model and support a culture of learning, professionalism and teamwork

support trainee plaster technicians and Band 3 staff through supervision, teaching and competency development
