The Electrophysiology department is the biggest in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe. Electrophysiology, along with Interventional Cardiology, make up one of the three directorates within the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest in the UK, with its complement of 10 catheterisation labs (5 of which are dedicated to EP) and 10 cardiothoracic theatres.
The ACHD unit provides highly specialised and comprehensive care tothe increasing number of adults with congenital heart disease. It serveslocal, national and international populations and encompassesexpert medical and surgical care, within an academic environment with a range of specialties relevant to congenital heart patients.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH)is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare, encompassing an acute specialist paediatric hospital with services to provide world-class care to children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions.
Great Ormond Street Hospital receives nearly 300,000 patient visits (inpatient admissions or outpatient appointments) every year (figures from 2018/19). Most of the children we care for are referred from other hospitals throughout the UK and overseas. There are 60 nationally recognised clinical specialities at GOSH; the UK's widest range of specialist health services for children on one site. More than half of our patients come from outside London and GOSH is the largest paediatric centre in the UK for services including paediatric intensive care and cardiac surgery. Since its formation in 1852, the hospital has been dedicated to children’s healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.
A longstanding transition service runs between GOSH and the ACHD unit (formerly at UCLH’s Heart Hospital and now at Barts Heart Centre), providing a streamlined transfer of care of patients (aged 16-18 years).

The post includes one day in the catheter lab at Barts Hospital and one day a week in the catheter lab at Great Ormond Street hospital, as well as a clinic at Barts and MDT commitments at both sites. We are looking for someone with a broad EP background, including extensive experience of AF ablation; a subspecialty interest in ACHD would be particularly advantageous and the successful candidate will also be trained and independent in paediatric catheter ablation
