About this role

This post is open only to candidates who have completed, or are nearing completion of, Internal Medicine Training (IMT) or who are currently working at ST4+ Registrar level and above. The role is ideally suited to doctors seeking to gain the relevant clinical and procedural experience required to apply for Higher Specialty Training (ST4+) in Cardiology in the coming years. Applications are also encouraged from those with relevant, employed clinical fellow or training doctor experience.

As an SCF, you will join a busy and well‑supported cardiology with excellent training opportunities. These include dedicated cardiac catheter laboratory lists, echocardiography sessions, outpatient and inpatient care. There is also the opportunity to participate in the GIM on‑call rota for those wishing to further develop their Acute and General Medicine experience.

We support our fellows to develop a specialist interest or advanced skill, and you will be encouraged to take part in departmental and Trust‑wide initiatives, education, and Quality Improvement projects. There will also be opportunities to become more closely involved in the innovation and research work in the cardiology, working alongside consultants with specialist expertise in research and innovation, contributing to pathway development and service delivery.

We have a twelve month fixed term post to offer. The post will be cross-site and is fully integrated into the middle-grade rota.

This is an exciting opportunity for a post Core Training (CT) Doctors interested in a career in Cardiology to join the service and develop leadership skills.

The main parts of the post involve the care of inpatients under the relevant medical specialty, general and acute medicine oncalls (posts with no oncalls can also be considered), working in clinic and outpatients, and performing the regular functions of a Medical Registrar.

On the ward, you will be part of a Consultant led team of other registrars and junior doctors and participate in daily Board rounds. There is also opportunity to carry out supervised outpatient clinics and MDTs. The post holder will participate in the General Medical on calls or Acute Medical on calls at SpR level. Leave will be accommodated and you will have time to develop a specialist interest.

The SCF will liaise with the consultant and nurses to allocate the day’s activity appropriately.

The SCF will be expected to assess and manage patients with the support of the consultant and using appropriate clinical guidelines.

There are multiple multi-disciplinary meetings between doctors, nursing staff, and specialist teams for the care of patients.

Teaching and Training

Medicine at West Middlesex Hospital is a dynamic and supportive training environment for all our healthcare professions. In addition to supporting you with your own individual training needs, you will be required to complete your mandatory training in accordance with the Trust guidelines. All trainees have an educational supervisor allocated to them.
