HR Assistant – Salary £26,000

We have a great opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic HR Assistant based at our Support Office in Bromley, Kent. Excelcare are a privately owned care provider with 31 care and nursing homes, a homecare division and a number of other smaller, expanding businesses.

As the HR Assistant, you will report directly to the Head of HR Business Partnering and work within a well-established and dedicated team across HR, Recruitment, and Compliance. The role requires excellent customer service skills, a proactive and professional approach, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong administrative capabilities and a high level of IT proficiency are essential, as the position involves the use of a wide range of systems and platforms.

About the role of

HR Assistant

  • Be the point of contact for HR queries via telephone and the HR ticketing inbox from internal and external stakeholders, managing allocated queries efficiently and escalating complex matters where appropriate
  • Add new starters to the HR system, process leavers, contractual changes, payroll documentation and reference requests all whilst maintaining accurate HR records
  • Ensure file compliance prior to processing and raise queries with recruiters/hiring managers if further information is required
  • Support the completion of the monthly Right to Work report and associated compliance checks, escalating complex matters where required
  • Preparing weekly/monthly reports as required
  • Assisting with monthly employee celebrations – birthdays, employment milestones, employee of the month
  • Attending meetings and taking notes and minutes where required
  • To provide reception support as part of a rota
  • Support the recruitment team with posting vacancies via the ATS onto agreed job platforms
  • Manage applications and shortlisted candidates through the Applicant Tracking System
  • Coordinate interview scheduling and liaised with Hiring Managers on availability
  • Issued onboarding documentation and recruitment paperwork
  • Ensured end-to-end compliance of candidate records, including right to work, ID checks, DBS applications, and references
  • Managed filing, correspondence, typing and general administrative duties
  • Provided additional support as directed by the Head of HR Business Partnering

About you

  • Educated to GCE / ‘O’ level / GCSE or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills and confident telephone manor
  • Excellent administration skills and proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines accurately
  • Eager to learn, offering solutions proactively as both a confident team player and independent contributor
  • Experienced in taking meeting minutes and supporting recruitment administration, including pre-employment checks such as Right to Work, DBS, and references
