Main Duties and Responsibilities
Head of
Professional Practice & Development
Lead and manage PVB throughout the MBBS programme, working in close partnership with Phase and Module Leads. Responsibility for the design and content of PVB teaching, ensuring it remains relevant, engaging, deliverable with available resources, and aligned to the intended learning outcomes. Work closely with Module Leads to ensure that the PVB content is appropriately woven into modules. Oversee the delivery of PVB, ensuring that it is timetabled appropriately, according to available resource and in accordance with published deadlines. Ensure recruitment and quality monitoring of suitable teaching staff, working within resource constraints. Develop new and innovative teaching sessions, ensuring that they are designed, maintained, updated and delivered to a high standard with due regard for resourcing and timetabling constraints. Work with Phase Leads and the Clinical & Professional Practice Module to lead the preparation and delivery of assessments for PVB as set out in the programme specification. Assessment setting, marking and feedback must be completed in accordance with University regulations and policy, working with the Head of Assessment to agreed timescales. Provide management reports on teaching, learning and assessment activities as required. Work with the Phase Leads to review and address feedback related to PVB from all sources, e.g. students, internal and external examiners, and assessment results. Liaise with the Director of Undergraduate Medicine and Phase Leads over issues arising in relation to student conduct/professionalism and Fitness to Practise concerns Actively engage with the SoM governance structures and Chair the Health and Conduct sub-Committee. Design and develop a suite of training and development resources and courses for campus and placement based clinical educators, including obtaining educational accreditation for such where appropriate Work with Head of Partnerships & External Engagement to develop systems and process for the reward and recognition of educators both on campus and for placement-based educators Provide clinical support where professionalism/performance issues may arise with campus and placement-based educators, including liaison with regulatory bodies such as the GMC Contribute to the SoM achieving academic objectives through teaching, research, and income generating activities.
Academic Duties
Where the post holder may have capacity, they will: Develop curriculum materials and resources for the modules and contribute to the creation of formative and summative written assessments related to PVB Engage in development activity within the curriculum to ensure content is current and innovative. Assist with SBA/OSCE station writing, OSCE examining, and invigilation as required. Represent the School and University on appropriate external committees and boards to ensure appropriate representation of views. Develop excellent relationships with external stakeholders to ensure appropriate high-quality teaching and learning including placement opportunities for students. Work closely with other members of the SoM, ensuring cross-school working and collaboration, and work in partnership with professional services staff supporting the programme. Engage in continuing professional development to ensure adequate skills and knowledge to carry out the role. Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of work. Undertake such specific roles and management functions within the School and University as may be required by the line manager or such other person to whom responsibility may have been delegated Undertake any other duties relevant to the Schools activities and commensurate with the level of the post, as directed by the Director of Undergraduate Medicine or Executive Dean of School. Ongoing Clinical Commitment Given that the purpose of the Associate Professor/Professor role is to enable individuals to embed contemporary clinical practice in teaching and the curriculum more generally, it is a fundamental condition of your employment that you remain employed in a clinical role within the National Health Service (NHS).

Maintaining full registration with the GMC and on the specialist or GP register. (You are advised to continue membership of one of the medical defence organisations.) Hold a consultant or equivalent level employment contract with a GP Practice/an NHS Trust.
