About this role
There are three strong departments of surgical services in the directorate, these are Orthopaedics, Urology and General Surgery. These posts will ensure delivery of education and service within the directorate. One post is available in Trauma and Orthopaedics. In the T&O department, there are 16 Consultants, 12 registrars and a team of resident doctors composed of Core Surgical Trainees, FY2s and Trust grades SHOs. In addition, the Department is strongly supported by Consultant Ortho Geriatricians.
Partake in the on-call rota. Support trauma and on-call clinical workload. Ready patients for surgery, including trauma/elective. Carry out ward rounds with resident doctors. Support resident doctors (SHO/F2) and on call. You will have your own clinic lists.
Croydon Health Services provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. These include Croydon University Hospital, Purley War Memorial Hospital, The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath and a minor injuries unit in New Addington. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,500 staff provide services for a population of over 340,000 people with a high level of ethnic diversity. The post holder is expected to supervise the work of the SHOs and FY2s, during the allocated on-calls and registrar of the week shifts. This Includes undertaking regular ward rounds and liaising with the MDT. The general duties of the post include clinics (elective and fracture) and theatre lists (elective and trauma). There is a big emphasis on audit, research and teaching with numerous educational opportunities present in the department regularly. Participation in all these activities is encouraged and supported. Post holders who show appropriate progression may be able to extend their contract and rotate through the department firms.
