What’s the role all about?

You’ll play a vital role in making sure patients are fully prepared and supported before surgery — helping everything run smoothly from start to finish. Working alongside our amazing Registered Nurses, you’ll help keep the patient journey safe, efficient, and stress-free.

We are seeking a motivated and organised Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join the Pre-Operative Assessment (POA) team. The successful post holder will support the smooth running of the pre-assessment pathway and work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to ensure patients are appropriately prepared for surgery.

The role involves preparing documentation on EPIC, undertaking health screening assessments for patients requiring surgery, and identifying any further assessments required in line with Pre-Operative Assessment guidelines.

With this role we expect that everyone is treated with respect and dignity and values others’ beliefs whilst delivering clinical care. This is a clinical front facing role where excellent customer care skills are expected to be delivered to patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.

  • Undertaking health screening assessments for patients requiring surgery.
  • Filtering and reviewing results of investigations/tests undertaken within the POA Unit.
  • Tracking patients requiring clearance for surgery and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Making decisions within set parameters, protocols, and a competency-based framework whilst liaising with the Registered Nurse.
  • Completing investigations as requested by the Registered Nurse.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate patient documentation on EPIC.
  • Organising and managing workload flexibly according to patient needs and service demands within the POA Unit.
