About this role
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking, enthusiastic, full time, substantive Consultant Psychiatrists to lead a Community Mental health team in the London Borough of Lewisham.
As the consultant you will be expected to undertake CPA reviews for your caseload as well as arrange follow up appointments as necessary. The team will have a small number of patients subject to section 17A Mental Health Act (1983/2007) (community treatment orders) and so you will be the Responsible Clinician for these cases. The role will also involve liaising with GP’s and other stakeholders including patients and carers, team governance meetings, service development and quality improvement work.
Further, Lewisham have also been running a Consultant Connect service, which operates from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays. GP’s have direct access for advice from a Consultant Psychiatrist (rota basis).
For more details regarding the post please see the Job description attached.
The main duties of the consultant are to provide psychiatry consultant leadership and to act as Approved Clinician to the Community Mental Health Team N3, and to support the Team Leader and Clinical Service Lead.
Close liaison with primary care will be a key part of the role. You will need to work directly with GPs and other stakeholders. The Lead clinician for community teams, Dr Dominic Cottrell and the AMD for Lewisham, Dr Hugh Williams will support you and the team with regard to stakeholder engagement and addressing any interface issues.
You will be expected to provide consultant input for Community Mental Health Team Neighbourhood 3 in which you will have a sector, based upon GP practice, for whom you will be the senior clinician. You will work alongside one other consultant psychiatrist who also work for the Neighbourhood, so there is scope for support and cross cover. There is also the benefit of having other consultants with whom you can discuss challenging cases. The co-location of teams will allow the post holder to work alongside several other psychiatrists with the benefits of cross cover this will allow.
The post holder will be expected to provide clinical cover for other Lewisham borough consultants and vice versa.
