Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner

About this role

A Vacancy at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Associate Practitioner, you will work independently under the supervision of qualified Speech and Language Therapists. Your role will include supporting assessment and intervention for children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), contributing to intervention for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs, creating therapy resources, and working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and settings.

The main duties for the key role within a small team is to deliver speech and language therapy support to children with a wide range of complex communication needs under the supervision of a registered SLT. This includes planning and running intervention or coaching sessions for individuals or groups, developing communication resources and low-tech aids, and supporting families and carers. The role involves gathering information to identify communication difficulties, contributing to assessments, implementing and evaluating interventions, and maintaining accurate clinical records. You will work across a range of settings and collaborate closely with children, families, therapists, and other professionals.

Our well‑established teams work closely with partner agencies to empower early years settings, assist in the development of targeted and specialist provision, and deliver consultation, training, assessment, and coaching packages. The service is jointly commissioned by health and education, enabling us to provide a seamless pathway of care from early years through schools, specialist provisions, and further education settings.

We are a forward‑thinking, evidence‑based service offering regular clinical supervision, personalised CPD opportunities, a comprehensive Trust induction, and access to a wide range of employee benefits.

Working for CNWL NHS Trust means being part of a compassionate, forward-thinking organisation dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centred care. The Trust values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring that both staff and service users are supported in a caring and inclusive environment. As an employer, CNWL fosters professional development, embraces diversity, and is committed to creating a positive impact on the communities it serves.

The role supports the wider service by contributing to training delivery, service development, and administrative tasks such as audits and reviews. You will prioritise and manage your own caseload, adapt interventions based on outcomes, and share relevant information with the multidisciplinary team. Maintaining resources, attending meetings, and helping ensure the efficient running of the SLT service are key aspects of this role. Overall, this is a varied role combining clinical support, teamwork, and service improvement to deliver high-quality care for children across Milton Keynes.
