Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of autistic pupils? A specialist school in Cranleigh is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the role of Trainee CABAS Teacher (known externally as SEN Teaching Assistant) to join their committed team.
The Role
Trainee CABAS Teacher (SEN Teaching Assistant)
This vital role involves supporting autistic pupils within a specialist environment. You will use behaviourally based instruction and positive reinforcement techniques to accelerate learning.
Key Responsibilities Include

Teaching and Support
Providing teaching and support, following individualised curriculums.

Lesson Delivery
Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons and activities to develop pupils' academic, social, and emotional skills.

Behavioural Guidance
Providing behaviourally based instruction to help pupils achieve their full potential, adhering to established behaviour guidelines.

Pupil Care
Encouraging acceptable levels of personal and environmental hygiene, and providing personal care (toileting, feeding) as needed.

Team Contribution
Contributing to curricular and teaching materials, attending staff meetings, and taking part in extra-curricular and off-site activities.

Professional Development
Progressing your own development through practical and theoretical training to enhance your understanding and practice of teaching duties, and developing your knowledge of autism spectrum disorders.
This role involves working within small classes, either in a group or on a 1:1 basis, using specialised support plans.
Hours and Benefits

Full-Time Hours
36.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Tuesday hours finish later at 5:30 pm.

Part-Time Considered
3 or 4 days, but Tuesdays must be a working day.

Holiday
56 days school holiday plus Bank holidays

Lead Teacher.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications
Minimum Grade C/4 GCSE, or equivalent, in English Language & Maths.

Experience
Professional, personal, or voluntary experience working with children and disabilities.

Composure
Ability to keep calm in high pressure situations and comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour.

Care
Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required.

Physicality
Able to perform tasks of a physical nature (often demanding), including twisting, stooping, and working at a lower height.
