Headteacher
Mrs Julie Summerfield
Teacher of Dance/Acting
MPR/UPR - Full time or Part time. Required from September 2026
HTC would like to invite applications from dynamic, enthusiastic, and committed teachers to join a thriving, collaborative, and forward-thinking department. This post will contribute to the delivery of the Dance curriculum at KS4, and Drama/Acting at KS3 and KS4, ensuring high-quality teaching and positive outcomes for all students. A part-time Dance teacher role would be considered.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to high standards in the classroom, a willingness to develop their practice, and the drive to achieve excellent outcomes for all students. They will work collaboratively with the Subject Leader and wider team to support the ongoing development of teaching, learning, and curriculum provision.
Applicants should have a strong interest in curriculum delivery and a passion for engaging students in Dance and Acting. We teach Edexcel BTEC Dance and Edexcel BTEC Acting at KS4, and these are very popular option choices. We have two designated studio spaces including our Dance studio with sprung floor, ballet bar, and rehearsal mirrors. Students study Drama at KS3 for 1 lesson of 55 minutes each week. The department encourages innovative and engaging methods of teaching and learning, and is always looking for ways to develop practice and provision.
The appointed person would need to be able to work as part of vibrant and creative team, and play a proactive role in the delivery of the extra curricular provision for the Arts. We produce one whole College musical production a year in November, as well as running a variety of performing arts clubs including LAMDA exams and a KS3 Drama club performance.
HTC is committed to providing the highest quality of learning for all students in every lesson and fully supports staff through induction and professional development. We also offer an exceptionally strong Early Career Teacher (ECT) programme, with dedicated mentoring, regular instructional coaching, reduced timetable, and a carefully sequenced training programme to support teachers at the start of their career. ECTs benefit from a highly supportive departmental and whole-school culture, ensuring they are able to develop confidence, refine their practice, and thrive as effective classroom practitioners.
We have an OFSTED rating of outstanding and good (November2024). HTC is described as a ‘college where students’ academic achievements and their personal development is extremely strong’. Ofsted highlighted the personalised education and innovative curriculum, the calm atmosphere, and the well-behaved students who are highly respectful and have positive attitudes to learning. Staff training, support, and welfare were seen to be exceptional. ‘Parents are overwhelmingly positive and appreciate the care and support their children receive’.
Informal enquiries/visits are welcomed and highly recommended. Please contact Jo Smith, Subject Leader, at joanne.smith@horndeantc.hants.sch.uk to arrange.
Application forms and further details are available on the College website. Please return completed application forms to vacancies@horndeantc.hants.sch.uk

PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the post of Full time or Part time Teacher of Dance/Acting with effect from September 2026. A Part time dance teacher post would be considered.
The Performing Arts Department consists of two purpose built drama studios with full lighting facilities, and an office between the two studios. In addition, the Performing Arts Department makes use of Barton Hall, the College’s main performance area. The department also has the support of an arts technician whose time can be booked to assist with lighting, video work and to assist with productions and exam performances.
Drama is taught to mixed ability groups at Key Stage 3, with BTEC Acting and Dance groups at Key Stage 4.
The department runs a number of extended curricular activities including an annual whole college musical production. Recent productions have included ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘Sister Act’, and ‘High School Musical’. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and non-selective in our productions. Smaller studio presentations have been given by years 10 and 11 to support their examination work. Lower college Drama and Dance clubs run every week and LAMDA examinations are offered to students every year.
Students at HTC benefit from the regular theatre trips that are organised by members of the department, including performances of ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Matilda the Musical’ this year. We have strong links with colleges and universities which culminate in shared performances and workshops, most recently visiting both Chichester College and HSDC to watch student performances in Dance and Acting.
We are looking for a Teacher of Dance/Acting with energy and enthusiasm for the subject. The successful candidate must have the ability to inspire young people in Dance, at all levels and in all styles. We are looking to see our extra curricular opportunities flourish working both independently of and collaboratively with staff, to produce performances that will capture the imaginations of our students, and specifically to coordinate our entry to Dance Live. This appointment would suit an ECT or experienced ambitious, well-motivated and effective teacher who is keen to take on new challenges and is passionate about encouraging creativity from performers, and enjoyment throughout the curriculum. We will support the successful candidate in seeing that this comes to fruition.
Staff new to the College are expected to take part in a comprehensive induction programme designed to foster the common maintenance and development of the College’s ethos and practices.
