Specialist Doctor, Trauma & Orthopaedics | Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

About this role

This new appointment is part of a plan to improve elective waiting times for orthopaedic patients including but not exclusive to lower limb arthroplasty. The post holder will also be responsible for independent trauma clinics and theatre lists

The role will include pre-operative assessment, liaison with anaesthetic staff, post-operative care and peri-operative decision making. The post-holder will be expected to run independent elective and trauma operating lists and clinics and is expected to attend departmental MDT meetings to ensure governance of all trauma and arthroplasty cases. There is no requirement to be part of the consultant on-call service, but acting at the level of consultant to cover trauma clinics and theatre lists is necessary, with the occasional need to support the Consultant of the Week ward activities.

The successful applicant will be expected to partake in CPD activities within T&O. They will require experience as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for all levels of training doctors both deanery and trust grade. We have a successful CESR programme within the department and the Specialist Doctor would be asked to support these trainees.

The successful applicants will be expected to

1. Deliver quality trauma and elective care and an efficient service, to continually improve practice.

2. Continue to enhance and develop the T&O service.

3. Work to strengthen links with GP’s and neighbouring Trusts

4. Help meet NHFD target for delivering best practice care in Fractured Neck of Femur patients

5. Drive down elective waiting lists and be part of the new elective arthroplasty hub.

6. Initiate and take part in regular clinical audit

7. Have an active role in research

8. Support the organisational aim of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, making a positive contribution to the management and financial strategies
