We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and dependable Personal Assistant/Carer to provide evening support to an elderly gentleman with vascular dementia who is chair-bound and unable to support his own weight.
He is a gentle man with a lovely sense of humour. Although he becomes tired and sleepy in the evenings, he remains able to understand and communicate. He enjoys watching television and appreciates quiet company.
The role starts from the 14th September and involves approximately 1½ hours each evening, split into two visits: 6.30pm–7.30pm, followed by a visit at 9pm for around 30 minutes - Monday to Friday and not usually on weekends, but possibly on an occasional Sunday night on arrangement.
The first visit will involve support with personal care, including toileting, undressing, brushing his teeth, cleaning his dental plate, putting on his dressing gown and making him comfortable. The remainder of the hour will generally be spent sitting with him while he watches television.
At 9pm, he will need assistance with his final toileting before being transferred to bed. There is no lifting involved, as all transfers are carried out using a hoist, and family support will be available during the bedtime routine.
The ideal candidate will be confident with personal care and toileting, comfortable using a hoist, and above all kind, patient, reliable and respectful. This is a calm and rewarding role providing both practical support and companionship to a lovely gentleman.
If you are an experienced carer looking for a regular evening role where you can make a genuine difference, we would love to hear from you.
