Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Dermatology

About this role

The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise across multiple complex medical dermatology services and acute dermatology settings, supporting safe, efficient and high quality care for patients with severe chronic inflammatory and blistering skin diseases. The post holder will work under consultant supervision and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver tertiary complex medical dermatology clinics, support dermatology inpatient activity, oversee the dermatology day centre and contribute to the safe prescribing and monitoring of high-cost immunomodulatory therapies. Your supervisor will provide regular supervision and guidance.

Job Summary

As a senior clinical fellow, you will be fully integrated into the multi-disciplinary medical dermatology team. Clinical responsibilities will be delivered primarily in an outpatient based and ambulatory/inpatient care setting. You will receive general and sub-specialty dermatology training. You will undertake 5 tertiary dermatology clinics per week. The post comprises 9 DCC sessions and supports high volume clinical activity in multiple tertiary complex medical dermatology clinics, including hidradenitis suppurativa, severe psoriasis, severe eczema and immunobullous disease, as well as the dermatology day unit and inpatient activity.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching and Training

All Trust Doctors are expected to contribute to the extensive teaching and training programme at St Johns. Specifically, this post encompasses: Responsibility shared with colleagues for the supervision and teaching of junior clinical fellows, trainees and visiting professionals attending the department. You will provide support and teaching for the postgraduate Masters in Clinical Dermatology (MSc) course (Kings College London and St Johns

Institute of Dermatology) Clinical Responsibilities

The post holder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of dermatology services to the Guys & St Thomas

NHS Foundation Trust to include

To support specialist dermatology clinical services with particular responsibility in complex inflammatory skin disease, including severe psoriasis, severe eczema, hidradenitis suppurativa and immunobullous disease, and general dermatology clinics. To contribute to the safe prescribing and monitoring of high-cost immunomodulatory therapies for patients with long-term chronic inflammatory skin diseases. To support high volume tertiary clinic activity, including at least 8-10 new clinic patients and at least 20 follow-up patients per week. To oversee efficient operation of the dermatology day unit and support acute medical dermatology inpatient admissions, including step down to dermatology day unit care. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff. To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to adults with skin disease.
