About this role
A Urodynamics (UDS) Nurse is a specialist nurse responsible for assessing, investigating, and supporting patients with bladder dysfunction and lower urinary tract symptoms through urodynamic investigations. The role involves performing and assisting with diagnostic procedures, monitoring patient safety and comfort, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, spinal services, continence teams, and physiotherapists.
In spinal services, the role is highly specialised and requires additional knowledge and experience in managing patients with complex neurological conditions and neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
- Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained and patients are supported throughout the investigation.
- Monitor patient safety, dignity, and comfort during all procedures.
- Accurately record, interpret, and report investigation findings to the clinical team.
- Assist consultants and clinicians during specialist urology and spinal clinics.
- Manage and maintain urodynamic equipment, ensuring it is cleaned, calibrated, and functioning correctly.
- Perform catheterisation and other specialist nursing procedures as required.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to complications or changes in patient condition.
- Provide patient education and advice regarding bladder management and ongoing care.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including spinal consultants, continence teams, physiotherapists, and community services.
