Rate of Pay

£12.71- £16.43 per hour

Summary

The Ground Maintenance Operative plays a key frontline role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of communal green spaces and external environments across Southern Housing estates. Working as part of the Estate Services team, the postholder will provide high-quality grounds maintenance and gardening services to ensure residents live in safe, attractive, and well-maintained communities. The role involves practical outdoor manual work including lawn maintenance, planting, pruning, landscaping, and general estate upkeep while delivering excellent customer service to residents and supporting Southern Housing's HEART values.

Responsibilities

Carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance and gardening tasks including weeding, hoeing, planting, pruning, trimming, watering, dead-heading, and maintaining flowerbeds and communal green spaces.

Operate gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely and effectively, including mowers, strimmers, brush cutters, ride-on equipment, and other maintenance tools in accordance with operational and manufacturer guidance.

Recognise and report concerns relating to vulnerable residents to managers or housing teams where appropriate.

Essentials

Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to follow instructions, complete records, and communicate effectively.

Experience undertaking gardening, grounds maintenance, landscaping, or estate maintenance duties.

Experience operating grounds maintenance tools, machinery, or gardening equipment safely and effectively.

Awareness of estate safety, cleanliness, and environmental standards.

This role requires a Standard DBS
