We have a new exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the General Oncology SLT service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Following a restructuring of the General Oncology SLT team, this Band 5 role is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills and experience in working with adult inpatients and outpatients in a specialist team.

The successful candidate will join the team of 0.75 B7 and 1.0 B6 SLTs delivering high-quality care to adult inpatients and outpatients with communication and/or swallowing disorders arising from cancer (excludinghead and neck cancers). You will be based at Guy’s Hospital and in Guy’s Cancer Centre working in a range of settings including multidisciplinary clinics and inpatient wards.

Applicants who are awaiting 2026 HCPC registration are welcome to apply, however please note employment will commence at Band 4 level until full registration is obtained. Applicants should be available to start full time employment from July 2026.

We are passionate about delivering high quality and personalised care to our patients and working effectively with other teams and cancer professionals. Suitable applicants must have experience of working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, either post-qualification or in student placements. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential.Experience of working within a multidiscplinary setting would be an advantage.Teaching is a significant part of the role and you will participate in nurse/medical education and provide external talks and presentations as needed.

There is a strong ethos of clinical support, supervision and development within the team. The service is able to offer you excellent supervision and peer support, with an emphasis on team working. Quality improvement projects and research ideas are strongly encouraged, both within SLT and in the multi-professional teams. We have regular team meetings, plus opportunities for continuing professional development through in-house training, clinical excellence networks and external courses.

Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for provision of a high-quality Speech and Language Therapy service to adult inpatients and outpatients presenting with communication and/or swallowing impairmentarising from cancer (excludinghead and neck cancers).
