Senior Clinical Research Fellow - Colorectal Surgery

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for two highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join our Colorectal Surgery team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will participate in the delivery of elective and emergency colorectal surgical services at registrar level. This will include involvement in outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and operating theatre lists, with exposure to minimally invasive colorectal techniques including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The role will include contribution to day surgery and ambulatory care pathways, as well as participation in the middle-grade on-call rota with appropriate senior supervision.

A central component of this post is the development of research activity. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead clinical research projects within the department, as well as contribute to ongoing local, national, and collaborative studies. The Trust has a strong academic profile and the appointee will be supported to present research findings at national and international meetings and to publish in peer-reviewed journals. Registration for a higher degree is expected.

The post holder will also have a significant role in education. This will include teaching undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees, contributing to formal teaching programmes, and supporting simulation and skills-based training. There will be opportunities to participate in the organisation of study days, courses, and workshops, as well as to engage in quality improvement and curriculum development.

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
