Brook Street is currently recruiting on behalf of the Ministry of Justice for an Administrative Officer (AO) to join a busy and rewarding team within the Family Court in Southampton.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a respected government department, supporting vital legal processes and contributing to the smooth running of court services.
The Role
As an Administrative Officer, you will play a key role in supporting court operations.
Your responsibilities will include
- Managing administrative tasks such as data input, email correspondence, and handling enquiries
- Supporting judges through clerking duties, both in person and remotely using Teams/CVP
- Assisting within the Family Court section, working with electronic case management systems
- Listing cases for hearings and producing accurate court lists
- Ensuring case files are prepared and ready for hearings
- Communicating effectively with judges and stakeholders via email, telephone, and face-to-face interaction
What We're Looking For
We are seeking candidates who are
- Highly IT literate and comfortable working with digital systems
- Strong communicators with excellent organisational skills
- Confident, professional, and able to use their initiative
- Calm under pressure and able to manage sensitive or challenging situations
- Team-oriented with a proactive approach
Experience
- Previous administration experience is desirable
- It Literate/Confident is essential
- However, candidates without direct admin experience will still be considered if they demonstrate the right skills and attitude

Additional Information
- Basic DBS clearance required
- Interviews will be held in person and will be informal (approx. 30 minutes)
- Full-time office attendance required (no hybrid working)
- IT equipment will be provided
