About this role

Self-Employed Acting General Manager

Manchester City Centre

Initial 3-Month Contract | Genuine Temp-to-Perm Opportunity

Self-Employed Basis | £30,000 Salary Equivalent + Service Charge

Perfect Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Acting General Manager to join a busy, vibrant bar and restaurant in Manchester City Centre.

This is an initial 3-month self-employed contract with a genuine opportunity to move into a permanent, full-time position at the end of the contract.

The business is looking for someone who can step in, take ownership of the venue and make a real impact. For the right candidate, the intention is for the role to become a permanent position following the initial 3 months.

You will invoice weekly on a self-employed basis, with the rate calculated against the equivalent full-time salary package.

The Role

As Acting General Manager, you will take responsibility for the smooth running of the venue, providing strong leadership and maintaining high operational and service standards.

You'll be joining an established team within a high-volume hospitality environment, so this role would suit someone who can quickly step in, build rapport with the team and confidently take ownership of the operation.

Importantly, this isn't simply a short-term cover position. The initial 3 months will provide an opportunity for both the business and successful candidate to assess the fit, with the intention of offering the right person a permanent full-time position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and manage the existing team
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the venue
  • Maintain consistently high standards of service and guest experience
  • Manage rotas, staffing and team performance
  • Oversee stock control, ordering and operational procedures
  • Monitor costs and support commercial performance
  • Ensure company policies, procedures and standards are maintained
  • Deal confidently with customer feedback and operational issues
  • Support and develop the existing management team
  • Take ownership of the venue during the contract period

About You

We're looking for an experienced hospitality manager who is comfortable taking responsibility for a busy operation and leading from the front.

You will ideally have

  • Previous experience as a General Manager, Deputy General Manager, Assistant General Manager or similar
  • Strong team leadership and people management experience
  • A background in busy bars, restaurants or high-volume hospitality venues
  • Good knowledge of rotas, stock control, ordering and operational management
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • A commercially minded approach
  • The confidence to quickly step into an established operation and take ownership
  • An interest in securing a permanent full-time position if the contract is successful

The Contract & Permanent Opportunity

  • Initial 3-month self-employed contract
  • Weekly invoicing based on the equivalent full-time salary

Full-time salary equivalent

£30,000

Annual service charge

circa £10,000

  • Genuine opportunity to move into a permanent full-time position after 3 months
  • The intention is for the successful interim candidate to become the permanent General Manager
  • Manchester City Centre location
  • Established team and operation
  • Predominantly daytime/retail-style operating hours
  • Venue closes at approximately 9pm
