Applications are invited for this post based in the Department of Biological Sciences.
You will be based in the central autoclave and wash-up facility, providing a service to the department’s research and teaching activities.
The role principally entails the physical collection and delivery of waste and equipment across the departmental suites of laboratories, and technical assistance in the glasshouse growing facilities.
After initial training, you will use autoclaves and glass washers to clean, sterilise and prepare equipment and consumables in the central services facilities on a daily basis. Some of this is carried out by hand for more fragile items. Central services ensure the compliance of waste treatment and disposal with biological safety legislation and procedures for which this post is a key part.
You will be self-motivated, have excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively. You will work as a member of the technical team supporting the department and receive training to cover other facility areas as and when required.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience of similar washers and autoclave equipment.
Experience in life science and application of safety protocols is desirable though not essential as all training will be provided.
A degree of physical fitness is essential as the post involves manual handling / portering activities for which training will be given.
