About this role

The Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Inpatient Therapies team has a fantastic opportunity for a part time band 6 OT to join our welcoming and dynamic therapies team for a 6 month secondment opportunity, 3 days per week.

We are a well-established, friendly and supportive inpatient therapies team whoprovide assessment and treatment programmes to patients on the two older adults inpatient wards; Silver Birches and The Oaks. We provide specialist therapy assessments to patients and a needs led, client centred individual and group based activity / therapy programme.

Our OT staff and wider team are friendly and supportive group who work fantastically well together to get the best outcomes for our patients. You will receive regular formal supervision from a senior member of staff and participate in regular team meetings which incorporates embedded reflective practice.

To carry out a range of standardised and functional assessments, including home visits to provide

· A baseline for OT treatment

· Detailed feedback to the multidisciplinary team about clients’ functional abilities

· Information and advice to carers regarding the clients’ abilities and needs

· Information required to access other services

· Information and professional advice to support the multidisciplinary team to formulate discharge plans

Support service development and QI projects

Provide supervision, oversight and guidance for junior staff

Offer skilled intervention to patients living with dementia

Work closely with the MDT to provide excellent care for patients

Maintain own CPD and professional development requirements

Deputise for team lead when required

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

The therapy role within the team at times involves assessments in the patient’s home and providing professional advice which actively informs the teams risk assessments and discharge plans. The team works collaboratively with the wards’ Multi-Disciplinary Teams.

The Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Therapies Team holds a caseload of patients for assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and pre and post discharge arrangements. The Band 6 Occupational Therapist works across the older adult wards on a sessional basis as designated by the team lead.
