About this role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Bacteriology Department atFrimley Health NHS Foundation Trustfor a motivated and organised individual to support our Biomedical Science team in delivering a high-quality diagnostic service.

Working under the supervision of a Registered Biomedical Scientist, the postholder will assist with a broad range of laboratory and administrative duties across the department. This role is essential in supporting the smooth and efficient processing of samples while ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and health and safety requirements.

This position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already hold the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the contract.

The successful candidate will work closely with pathology colleagues, hospital staff, porters, drivers and couriers, contributing to an effective and patient-focused laboratory service. Participation in the departmental shift system is required.

  • Support Biomedical Scientist staff with the collection, sorting, numbering and registration of samples onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Process workload efficiently to support the timely delivery of laboratory services
  • Accurately input and maintain patient and request information using laboratory and hospital IT systems
  • Carry out a range of administrative duties, including specimen archiving, retrieval of data and maintenance of audit trails
  • Monitor and report temperature readings outside acceptable ranges
  • Assist with stock control, including stock rotation, storage, receipt of goods and monitoring of expiry dates and batch numbers
  • Prepare laboratory solutions and reagents safely and accurately
  • Issue stock and supplies to laboratory areas, external departments and GP surgeries as required
  • Operate laboratory waste disposal systems, including the safe use of autoclaves
  • Maintain clean, organised and safe working areas, including autoclave suites
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high standards of laboratory practice and patient care
