As part of our growth strategy, we are really pleased to have opened a new SEND Secondary School in the heart of Horsham, West Sussex for autistic young people aged 11-16. We are a happy school that values kindness and understanding where everyone feels safe. Most of our students are coming to us from mainstream education to have access to an adapted National Curriculum delivered in small classes with a focus on meeting their sensory needs and support for their emotional wellbeing.
You'll work within our team supporting the Pastoral Lead and teaching staff in their work with students. You will play a proactive role in positive behaviour management as well as interacting with the young people during extra-curricular times, encouraging them to participate in the social and academic life of the school. Your role will also monitor, quality assure and implement behaviour strategies in order to mitigate risk for the young people and those around them as well as supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with safeguarding caseload management.
Key Accountabilities
Act as a role model and support the development and improvement of individual and site practice.
To assist the Pastoral Lead to coordinate the effective implementation of the Aurora Positive Behaviour Policy.
To provide rapid response to the Aurora staff when a child is in need of additional support in crises.
To monitor and report on students out of class.
To provide a physical presence on the school site during the school day, especially during breaks and lunchtime.
To liaise with parents/carers on behavioural issues.
To assist the Pastoral Lead with behavioural training to staff and student information through CPD.
To provide therapeutic support to students who are struggling to engage with classes and staff in cooperation with the clinical team with the aim of re-engagement in class.

Candidates must
have a good level of written and verbal English and general education as well as IT skills to support our students' learning plus GCSE pass C or above (or 4 in new GCSE system) in English and Maths.
A relevant professional qualification or the ability to gain a qualification in behaviour management
have the empathy and resilience to work with young people some of whom may experience high anxiety and may exhibit self-harming behaviours, ARFID and disordered eating, and a range of mental health difficulties.
