Spasticity Clinic Assistant

About this role

To assist the clinical team with the delivery of complex procedures such as botulinum toxin injections, nerve blocks and intrathecal baclofen (ITB) refills. This will include checking of controlled drugs (botulinum toxin, Baclofen and Phenol) and saline with clinicians; opening and safe handling of sterile packs; setting up of EMG machines and muscle stimulators; removal of Botox vials from the refrigerator and handling thereafter; opening of Baclofen and Phenol vials To assist with positioning of the patient during the procedure including supporting other clinicians in handling and positioning limbs in preparation for injections or intrathecal baclofen (ITB) refills. To assist with the moving and handling of patients and loads using the correct moving and handling aids and techniques in accordance with local guidelines and risk assessments. To assist with Baclofen pump refills including donning sterile gloves and maintaining pump and template position. To communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors or carers, and other clinicians involved in the care of the patient, e.g. General PractitionerS To manage and answer telephone calls related to the service in a courteous and prompt manner To provide patients with information about appointments or non-clinical advice and guidance regarding their care in a sensitive and timely manner and using language they understand. To resolve complex queries, using analysis, experience and judgement to determine when to pass the caller on to a member of the clinical team, or when to escalate the call to a senior colleague. Where calls are passed on, ensure that the caller is reassured regarding expected response times and has further contact details if necessary To be aware of and adhere to the Trusts policy on standards for safe practice e.g. manual handling policy, fire, infection control, lone working, patient safety notices, uniform policy etc. and support others to do so. To identify health emergencies and act accordingly To report any incidents (e.g. where equipment does not meet the required standard), accidents or problems to the staff member in Charge.
