Senior Respiratory Physiologist

About this role

Responsibility patient/client care The post holder will independently plan, undertake, and perform simple initial interpretation on a range of lung function diagnostic assessments in accordance with guidelines.

Such investigations could include

o Spirometry, peak flow rates, flow/volume loopso Gas transfero Static lung volumeso Reversibility of airways obstruction with bronchodilatorso Field exercise testso Exhaled and nasal nitric oxideo Exhaled carbon monoxide Responsibility for policy and service development The post holder will contribute to the development of procedures by commenting on proposed changes to laboratory protocols and procedures, making their own suggestions when asked. They will liase with and report to medical staff and report pressures and problems within their area of responsibility to their manager Responsibility for financial and/or physical resources Be responsible for the supervision, maintenance, calibration and general care of all sensitive lung function equipment. The post holder will help with the organisation of repairs and servicing to ensure quality of service and high safety levels. They will also be responsible for the provision of CPAP equipment to patients, helping to maintain the database of CPAP equipment issued. Report on the stock levels of consumables to their line manager and order temporary stock when necessary Responsibility staff management/leadership/training Assist with the training of less qualified and less experienced staff, including student physiologists, in aspects of pulmonary function testing and sleep medicine. Duties in relation to information resources The post holder will be responsible for inputting data on PC based laboratory systems and reporting the results of lung function tests to physicians and specialist nurses Assist with filing and posting the results of GP requested tests Responsibility research and development Participate in research, audit projects and clinical trials within the department. They should keep abreast of developments in pulmonary physiology & sleep medicine and share knowledge learnt with colleagues. Please refer to the job description for further details.
