Agilysis is a consulting and research company. Data Technicians will have the opportunity to work with geospatial and non-geospatial data, to develop their analytical, technical and non-technical skills whilst in position.

Job description

This is a great opportunity to join Agilysis as a Data Technician Apprentice as part of their early careers programme, Momentum.

The post holder will undertake the 15-month (+ 3 months End Point Assessment) Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship whilst on a fantastic apprentice salary of £16,500-£19,500 depending on experience.

Data are the lifeblood of Agilysis. Data, however, are always changing as are the requirements we have from data. Data Technicians are responsible for running ETL processes, routine data linking, everyday management and provision processes across a variety of platforms and technologies. They are also responsible for enacting day-to-day tasks in managing the Agilysis technical estate.

The purpose of this role is to work as part of a specialist technical team, using and developing understanding of databases, data management and analysis to support a range of projects and solutions.

The technical team works with the Agilysis Product Portfolio and alongside the Consultancy team, providing the critical data management function, enabling access to data, providing and assisting with analysis and visualisation.

Data Technicians carry out important work maintaining and operating the Agilysis data platform. They enact ETL and data management processes, contribute to the management of the technical infrastructure and estate and ensure data and process quality at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Monitoring

Performing basic technical operations on cloud resources

Assisting the team with implementing technical changes to the data platform

Taking backups and performing other routine maintenance according to defined procedures

Monitoring the health of the data platform and greater cloud estate

Data Processing and Management

Assisting the team with maintaining a catalogue of data

Monitoring existing vendors for changes and updates to data supply, noting any changes

Executing existing analytics pipelines

Ad-hoc data ordering and processing

Executing ETL code for repeatable imports

Executing existing code and procedures to transform data

Analysis and Product support

Responding to technical questions from customers with regard to Agilysis products.

Executing tests and other quality assurance procedures

Assisting the team with the deployment and rollout of product and data updates

Assisting the team with technical investigations and problem resolution, including bug reports from customers.

Contributing minor bug fixes and minor changes to the Agilysis codebase

Assisting the wider team with

Basic provision of custom datasets for analysis

Industry-specific training (including collision investigations, road environment and assessment, data and modelling, human factors and behaviour change, and vehicle technologies).

Skills and knowledge learned from these two training strands will be applied to real-world client work, allowing the postholder to demonstrate their skills and learning.

Future Prospects

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you may be offered a full time, permanent position with Agilysis

Skills required

  • A basic understanding of computers, networks and their operation, at a technical level
  • An appreciation of the nature of data and how information can be derived from multiple, inter-related datasets
  • Programming experience, or an appreciation of algorithms and how they can be expressed in formal languages

  • GCSEs at grade C/4 or above or L2 functional skills in Maths and English
