We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.The Chief Operating Officer Group works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The group is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to work at SEO level to provide critical activities to support the delivery of Commercial’s objectives. These roles could be of interest experienced procurement professionals and commercial analysts who are looking to broaden their commercial skills in a central commercial function or to existing commercial staff who would enjoy taking on a new role.

The Home Office Commercial team is part way through a programme of change which has seen us recruiting across all grades. We are seeking diligent individuals to work at SEO level to provide critical activities to support the delivery of Commercial’s objectives. These roles could be of interest to commercial professionals with procurement experience and expertise or contract managers who are looking to broaden their commercial skills in a central commercial function or to existing commercial staff who would enjoy taking on a new role. Successful candidates will receive a programme of development with the opportunity to study towards professional commercial qualifications.

The role sits within Home Office Commercial, supporting the Homeland Security Group (HSG) and Public Safety Group (PSG)—two of the department’s core mission areas. HSG focuses on reducing threats such as terrorism, cyber and economic crime to protect the UK’s security and prosperity, while PSG delivers outcomes that keep the public safe, including policing, crime reduction and emergency services.

Commercial teams working across HSG/PSG manage a diverse and high‑value portfolio of procurements and contracts, providing market insight, sourcing expertise and contract management to ensure delivery of critical Home Office priorities in a compliant and value‑driven way.

  • Lead and deliver complex procurements in line with Home Office policy and legislation, from early market engagement through to contract award and management.
  • Develop procurement strategies and plans, providing clear commercial options that balance requirements, risk, value for money and Social Value.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, working with business areas and suppliers to shape requirements and deliver effective outcomes.
  • Support delivery of procurements through robust analysis of complex data, business case development, and compliant use of e‑sourcing tools and governance processes.
  • Contribute to category and strategic planning, identifying opportunities to improve value, drive efficiencies and align activity across the portfolio.
  • Manage contracts and supplier performance, ensuring delivery against milestones, effective risk management, and maximising financial and non‑financial benefits.
  • Provide commercial advice and support to colleagues, sharing expertise, improving capability, and embedding continuous improvement across procurement activity.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.

Travel

Occasional travel will be required.
