Paralegal - Governance and Compliance

About this role

About the job

Overview

This is a new opportunity within our Legal & Compliance team for a Paralegal, supporting the smooth running of corporate governance at Screwfix.

In this role, you’ll ensure Board and Committee activity is well coordinated, governance records are accurate, and compliance obligations are delivered efficiently and in line with established processes and timelines. It’s a role for someone who enjoys structure, detail, and getting things done to a consistently high standard.

You’ll work closely with the Director of Legal and interact regularly with senior stakeholders, including directors, acting as a key point of coordination for governance activity while supporting a wide range of legal and compliance processes.

This isn’t a purely legal role. It’s a governance, coordination and compliance-focused position where attention to detail, strong organisation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment really matter.

What's in it for you?

  • 28 days' holiday (including bank holidays, 5 of which can be taken flexibly) increasing with service up to a maximum of 33 days
  • Hybrid working with up to 2 days working from home
  • Flexible start and end times around core working hours
  • Buy More Holiday - eligible colleagues can boost their holiday allowance by up to one extra week
  • Up to 14% employer pension contributions
  • Life cover up to 4x your salary
  • Health cash plan and discounted gym memberships (up to 25% savings)
  • 20% discount at Screwfix and B&Q

Key responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and coordination support for Board and Committee activity, including agendas, papers, accurate minutes and action tracking.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of Board and Committee packs, ensuring all materials are accurate, well-presented, and delivered in line with governance timelines.
  • Support governance and compliance processes, including coordinating documentation, assisting with reporting requirements, and ensuring legal and governance procedures are followed in line with established processes.
  • Assist with the drafting, formatting, version control and distribution of governance documents, policies, resolutions and board papers.
  • Monitor governance calendars, meeting cycles and reporting timelines to support timely delivery of governance and compliance obligations.
  • Act as a point of contact for directors, committee members and stakeholders on governance administration matters, escalating issues where judgement or risk is required.
  • Support the administration of Code of Conduct processes, including maintaining registers, logging and escalating concerns, and collating information for internal and Group reporting.
  • Handle governance related information with discretion and professionalism, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide ad hoc senior stakeholder and diary coordination support where required, including elements of PA-style assistance

Required skills & experience

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, well-presented documents and keep records up to date in a highly structured, process-driven environment.
  • Experience in an administrative, paralegal or support role within a legal, governance, compliance or professional services environment
  • Exposure to governance processes such as meeting coordination, agendas, papers, minutes or action tracking
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and comfortable working to regular reporting or meeting cycles.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, confidence using Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to recognise when issues should be escalated
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • A proactive and self-sufficient approach, with the confidence to take ownership of tasks and ensure governance processes and timelines are adhered to.
