About this role

We are seeking to appoint a specialty Doctor in Oncology with dedicated time for professional development. This is a part time role, 0.6 WTE. The post holder will have at least 4 years of post-graduate training, including a minimum of 2 years in Oncology.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop clinical expertise, contribute to service development, and gain valuable experience for those considering a career in oncology.

Most of the clinical workload for this role is focused on Breast and Gi and is predominantly outpatient-based, support of the acute Oncology service will be included. The role is based at the Winchester site however there may be a requirement to support the Basingstoke site on occasions and by agreement.

The Cancer Services team provide diagnosis, treatment and support to patients at both the Basingstoke and Winchester sites. We provide treatments for both Haematology and Oncology patients on our Nick Jonas ward in Winchester and The Greenham unit in Basingstoke We also have a 10 bedded inpatient ward on the Basingstoke site for Haematology.

We work with Wessex Cancer Alliance, Macmillan, The Ark Cancer Charity and the Cancer Services Partnership. We are part of the Wessex Haematology Network for the region.

The post holder will be responsible for a broad range of clinical and administrative duties, including

  • Assessment, review, provision of advice, and formulation of treatment plans for new and follow-up patients receiving:

1. Chemotherapy

2. Targeted therapies

3. Immunotherapy

4. Radiotherapy

  • Participation in the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)

Supporting Clinical Nurse Specialists with

1. Monitoring of biochemistry results

2. Review and follow-up of radiologically significant findings

  • Assisting the Chemotherapy Unit and Pharmacy with prescription-related queries

Providing oncology advice to

1. Medical teams

2. Surgical teams

3. Acute oncology teams regarding the management of inpatients

  • Undertaking the administrative duties associated with the delivery of high-quality patient care
