Job Description - Operational Support Officer RCJ HMCTS
Central London | £15.59 per hour | 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
Temporary assignment (initial 6 months with potential to extend) | Fully office-based (5 days on site)

Brook Street are currently recruiting Operational Support Officers (AO) to support the effective administration of the courts within a fast-paced public sector environment.
This is a varied role providing administrative, case management, and customer-facing support across different operational areas. Successful candidates will play a key part in ensuring court processes run smoothly and efficiently, supporting judiciary, legal professionals, and court users.
This role is based the Royal Courts of Justice.
Key Responsibilities
Duties are not limited to, but may include
- Processing court documentation and case-related correspondence in line with HMCTS procedures
- Maintaining and updating accurate records on internal case management and digital systems
- Managing case files, ensuring they are correctly stored, tracked, and progressed
- Handling telephone, email, and face-to-face enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Scanning, uploading, and securely managing sensitive legal documentation
- Liaising with judiciary, legal professionals, court users, and internal HMCTS teams
- Supporting hearings, including court ushering duties, assisting in courtrooms to ensure proceedings run smoothly and efficiently
- Assisting with listings, scheduling, and case progression activities
- Providing general administrative support to ensure the smooth running of daily operations
- Maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with court standards at all times
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous administrative and/or customer service experience in a busy environment (essential)
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands
- Professional, confident, and proactive approach to work
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Additional Information
- DBS and reference checks required (processed by Brook Street)
- Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) eligibility required - applicants must have resided in the UK for the past 3 years
- Full training provided
- Office-based role (no remote working)
