Regional Anaesthesia Fellow | Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust

The Department of Anaesthesia at Wexham Park Hospital invite applications from registrar (CT4/ST4+) to post-CCT anaesthetists for our Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship.

This fellowship provides advanced training in regional anaesthesia, enabling the post-holder to develop expertise in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and continuous catheter techniques.

The Fellow will receive exceptional hands-on experience and training; have opportunities to train colleagues in regional anaesthesia; and be encouraged to engage in research, audit and service development projects to help enhance Wexham Park Hospital’s regional anaesthesia service.

The Fellow will be supervised by Dr Aditya Pal and Dr Richard Wand, both fellowship-trained regional anaesthetists, supported by a department with several regional anaesthesia experts and enthusiasts.

The Fellow can expect to perform a range of blocks for elective and emergency surgery. Over a 12 month period, we would hope for the Fellow to perform around 300 blocks, including upper and lower limb blocks, truncal blocks and perineural catheters.

The Fellow will need to provide anaesthetic care to patients attending for elective and emergency care.

The department operates a full shift system which integrates anaesthetic residents, fellows and speciality doctors into the on-call tier rotas (theatres, obstetrics and ICU), which are compliant with the New Deal and European Working Time Directive.

The Fellow will deliver regional anaesthesia teaching in a variety of contexts

The Fellow will undertake regional anaesthesia audits, QUIPs, and research & improvement initiatives, with encouragement to present at national/international meetings. This will include the recognised role of local co-ordinator for the Royal College of Anaesthetists 8thNational Audit Project (NAP-8).

Fellows are required to maintain registration with the GMC and comply with the Trust’s clinical governance arrangements, including participation in clinical audit, monthly academic half days, annual appraisal and being up to date with mandatory and statutory training.
