Specialist Biomedical Scientist Haematology

About this role

To calibrate, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot complex laboratory hardware and software to ensure reliable performance. To authorise and release abnormal laboratory results, adding appropriate technical comments and escalating clinically significant results to senior staff or medical teams as required. To participate in audits, internal quality assurance programs, and research and development activities as directed by Senior or Head Biomedical Scientists. To support and train junior staff, trainees, and Associate Practitioners, including mentoring, assessing competence, and deputising for senior staff when needed. To manage departmental stock control, ensuring adequate levels of chemicals, reagents, consumables, blood, and blood products, maintaining accurate records, rotating stock appropriately, and using time-sensitive items within their expiry dates to minimise waste. To participate in out-of-hours duty rosters, making autonomous decisions while working unsupervised to process urgent samples and maintain service delivery 24/7
