Transport Planner – General Haulage

Salary
£34,000 to 36,000 per year (dependant on experience)
Hours
Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00/6:00pm
On Call
Required (rota basis)
We are recruiting an experienced Transport Planner to manage the day to day planning of our general haulage operation.
This is a planning led role. You will be responsible for routing, fleet utilisation, driver liaison, and sourcing backloads to keep vehicles moving efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan daily and weekly vehicle routes
- Maximise fleet utilisation and source backloads
- Liaise with drivers and handle live operational changes
- Manage driver holidays, sickness, and agency cover
- Participate in an on call rota
- Provide basic administrative support for vehicle maintenance and compliance
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in transport planning (general haulage essential)
- Proven ability to optimise routes and vehicle usage
- Existing transport industry contacts preferred
- Calm under pressure and confident making decisions
- Working knowledge of transport systems and Microsoft Office
- Basic understanding of transport compliance
Experience with European transport and/or events logistics is an advantage but not essential.
