This post offers a great opportunity to lead and manage the research performance and business planning for the Clinical Imaging & Medical Physics (CLIMP) Directorate. This is a large and research active Directorate that consistently recruits very high number of participants to (mainly) investigator led imaging and interventional studies, as well as acting as a core research service in providing high volumes of research imaging investigations to clinical trials, reports and medical physics and clinical engineering approvals and risk assessments.
The post holder will be responsible for the oversight of research studies and clinical trial activity. They will oversee the day-to-day management and support of the directorate research delivery teams, education and development of junior research staff and ensure adequate support is provided to investigators and their teams to manage research portfolios. This will include working across teams hosted by CLIMP and by KCL’s School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences (BMEIS), whose studies mainly fall within CLIMP’s research portfolio.
The position is a permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week) post.
Duties include
- Leading and managing the research performance and business planning of the CLIMP Directorate.
- Oversight of research studies and clinical trial activity – including delivery to time and target for both commercial and non commercial studies
- Day to day management and support of the directorate research delivery teams, education and development of junior research staff and ensuring adequate support is provided to investigators and their teams.
The postholder will work closely with the Director of Clinical & Research Imaging Operations, CLIMP R&D Lead, Head of Research Workforce and R&D to develop a well-balanced clinical trial and research study portfolio, plan an efficient and managed workforce, and ensure achievement of all key performance indicators related to the Trust/NIHR research objectives.
The successful applicant will have experience in clinical research, change management and service delivery. Previous line management and budgetary management experience is essential.

CLIMP consists of 3 services
Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics. All 3 services are at the cutting edge of their respective fields of expertise. Exciting and challenging future strategies are in place for all 3 departments. The Directorate is part of the King’s Health Partners (KHP) Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and has strong imaging collaborations with King’s College London’s School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences (BMEIS).BMEIS is a cutting-edge research and teaching School dedicated to development, translation and clinical application within medical imaging.
