About this role

The main Objective of this role is to deliver high standards of care, ensuring that each woman's journey to motherhood is an individualized experience

Responsibilities

*The Midwife works within all areas of midwifery and works with other agencies involved in the provision of maternity services.

*Responsible for the provision and maintenance of a high standard of care for mothers and babies, planning, implementing and evaluating care appropriately.

*Recognises that the needs of each mother and her family are unique and responds appropriately, throughout and across the variety of environments in which midwives practice. Competently giving care in all areas of midwifery, and prescribing care for women with normal pregnancies. Challenging care that is not evidence based.

*Is expected to provide total care for antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods and must keep the supervisor of midwives informed when medical support is absent for whatever reason. Maintaining contemporaneous records.

*Responds appropriately to all emergency situations, reflecting on practice following the event.

*Is aware and identifies concerns relating to child protection, liaising with Health Visitor and reporting to Named Midwife Child Protection.

*Is involved in developing, implementing and evaluating standards of care, practicing from evidence based care, participating in audit when required.

*Continuously develop clinical skills so that she is able to competently give care during labor either in the hospital or home setting.

*Liaise with medical staff, to ensure that a safe approach to care is given following the guidelines within the unit protocol.
