Job summary

Bhuku Ltd is recruiting a Self-Employment & Employability Skills Tutor to deliver a specialist programme at HMP Swaleside.

This role supports prisoners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to explore self-employment opportunities on release, including creating and presenting a business plan.

The role is delivered across a set number of agreed delivery days (approximately 29 days across 12 months), with dates scheduled in advance around availability and prison requirements.

Job description

You will deliver a structured programme that enables learners to

Understand the realities of self-employment

Develop business ideas into viable plans

Identify customers, products and services

Understand marketing, finance and business setup

Build communication, teamwork and decision-making skills

Present and evaluate business ideas

You will also

Support learners to create a completed business plan portfolio

Deliver group-based sessions (4-day courses)

Provide additional 1

1 support and catch-up sessions

Contribute to learner progress reports and outcomes

Support employability and resettlement pathways

Delivery will take place in classroom settings within the education department, with some flexibility required.

Working pattern

Approximately 29 delivery days across 12 months

Includes

6 delivery weeks (Monday–Thursday)

Additional support days for 1

1 sessions and follow-up

Person specification

Essential

Experience delivering employability, enterprise or business skills training

Strong communication and facilitation skills

Ability to engage learners with diverse needs

Ability to work within a secure environment and follow procedures

Willingness to complete prison vetting and induction

Desirable

Experience working in a custodial or secure setting

Knowledge of self-employment, business start-up or entrepreneurship

Teaching, training or coaching qualification

Experience supporting neurodiverse learners or those with additional needs

Skills and experience

You will be

Confident delivering structured group sessions

Able to adapt content to different learning levels

Organised and able to manage learner progress and reporting

Professional and resilient in a secure environment

Additional information

This role is based within a Category B prison environment

All staff must

Pass security vetting

Complete prison induction and training

Follow all HMPPS policies and procedures

Delivery schedules may be adjusted based on operational needs
