Job summary

Bhuku Ltd is recruiting an Employment Tutor to deliver a structured, peer-led employability programme at HMP High Down.

This role supports prisoners to build the skills, confidence and experience needed to progress into employment, education or training on release. You will deliver a focused programme to small groups of learners, combining employability training with mentoring and practical application.

You will deliver a structured programme that enables learners to

Build confidence, motivation and work readiness

Develop CVs, job applications and disclosure letters

Prepare for interviews and professional environments

Identify career goals and employment pathways

Understand employer expectations and workplace behaviour

Develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills

You will also

Deliver group-based sessions and 1

1 support

Train and support learners to take on peer mentoring roles

Facilitate mock interviews and practical employability activities

Support learners to create a personal progression plan

Track learner progress and contribute to reporting and outcomes

Delivery will take place in a classroom environment and may include work across different areas of the prison.

Working pattern

Monday and Tuesday

08:00 – 17:00

10-month fixed-term contract

Person specification

Essential

Experience delivering employability, personal development or training programmes

Strong communication and facilitation skills

Ability to engage learners with diverse needs and backgrounds

Ability to work within a secure environment and follow procedures

Willingness to complete prison vetting and induction

Desirable

Experience working in a custodial or secure setting

Teaching, training or coaching qualification

Knowledge of employment pathways, recruitment or careers guidance

Experience supporting neurodiverse learners or those with additional needs

Skills and experience

You will be

Confident delivering structured sessions to small groups

Able to motivate learners who may have low confidence or limited work experience

Skilled in mentoring and supporting individual progression

Organised and able to track learner development

Professional and resilient in a secure environment

Additional information

This role is based within a Category C training and resettlement prison

You will work closely with

Learning & Skills Manager

Activities Hub and OMU

Prison officers and education staff

All staff must

Pass security vetting

Complete prison induction and training

Follow all HMPPS policies and procedures
