About this role
Deputy Room Leader – Pre-School Room (Maternity Cover)
Up to £29,800 per year (depending on qualifications and experience)
41 Hours per Week | All Year Round
The pre-school years are an exciting time. Children are finding their independence, asking endless questions, building friendships, and getting ready for their next big adventure – starting school.
Working alongside the Room Leader, you'll help guide the day-to-day running of the room while supporting a passionate team to deliver high-quality early years education. You'll encourage children to explore their interests, develop new skills, and become confident learners through a balance of child-led play and thoughtfully planned activities.
With spacious, age-specific learning environments and a large outdoor garden, there are plenty of opportunities to take learning beyond the classroom and create memorable experiences that prepare children for their transition to school.
What We're Looking For
- Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent).
- Previous experience working within a nursery or early years setting, ideally with pre-school-aged children.
- Experience as a Deputy Room Leader, Senior Nursery Practitioner, or a strong practitioner ready to develop their leadership skills.
- Good knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures.
- An understanding of school readiness and supporting children's transition to primary school.
- Confidence supporting and mentoring other members of the room team.
- A creative and enthusiastic approach to planning engaging learning experiences.
What You'll Receive
- Salary of up to £29,800 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Paid day off on your birthday.
- Healthcare scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
- Paid enhanced DBS check.
- Free uniform.
- Pension scheme.
- On-site parking.
- Staff Christmas party.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Supportive team environment with opportunities to continue developing your early years leadership experience.
A Little More About the Role
- Support the Room Leader with the smooth day-to-day running of the Pre-School Room.
- Help lead, motivate, and support the room team to maintain high standards of practice.
- Create exciting learning opportunities that encourage independence, confidence, and school readiness.
- Act as a Key Person, building strong relationships with children and their families.
- Observe and assess children's development, using their interests to shape future learning opportunities.
- Support children as they develop important social, emotional, and communication skills.
- Step up in the Room Leader's absence and confidently take responsibility for the room.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and early years practice.
All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, and verification of the right to work in the UK, in line with safeguarding responsibilities.
