About this role
Please note that the advertised salary for this position is subject to the pending 2026/2027 national pay award. The final salary will be adjusted accordingly once this has been agreed.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of the Building Control team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Forming part of the wider Planning Service, which deals with statutory duties and requirements under the Building Regulations and other related legislation, the postholder will play a key role in monitoring and regulating developments across the county.
On a day-to-day basis, you will
- Assess Building Regulation applications and supporting information.
- Undertake site inspections to assess compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Provide professional, impartial and practical technical advice to applicants, agents, contractors and members of the public.
- Support the Council’s statutory response to dangerous structures.
- Contribute to an effective, efficient, responsive and high-quality Building Control service.
- Contribute to the implementation of legislative changes arising from the Building (Wales) Regulations 2024 and 2025.
- Provide support to the wider Planning Service where required.
We are looking to recruit an individual who
- Has a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, or an equivalent combination of Building Control knowledge and experience.
- Is a Registered Building Inspector at Class 2(a–f) or higher.
- Can communicate impartially, professionally and effectively with a wide range of people at various levels.
- Can work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Has a strong commitment to providing a high-quality public service and achieving customer satisfaction.
The post requires a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. Please note that a successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the required standard within two years of appointment.
